Sustainable
development is about finding ways to continue
to live and develop indefinitely without compromising
the future of the planet and forthcoming generations
who will depend on it for their survival.
Current development is unsustainable, in that
we are clearly exceeding the capacity of our planet
to deal with increasing population, pollution
and waste.
Sustainable
development aims to integrate the environment
with social and economic needs. A central principal
is that decisions about the future should be made
with wide community participation.
Sustainability
requires that we take a wider, global and longer-term
view of our actions and consider equity and fairness
between all nations of the world.
