Energy and Environment Research Unit

Welcome to the Energy and Environment Research Unit.

The Energy and Environment Research Unit (EERU) was set up in 1986 to undertake and co-ordinate research on sustainable energy technologies and to support the development of environmentally sound approaches to the generation and use of energy. The Unit is staffed by members of the Faculty of Mathematics, Computing and Technology (MCT) and is currently directed by Stephen Peake. EERU is also part of the Sustainable Technologies Group (STG), a wider research grouping within the MCT Faculty which also includes the Design Innovation Group (DIG) and the Integrated Waste Systems (IWS) Group.

In addition to supporting a wide range of post-graduate research work, EERU also runs the course T206 "Energy for a Sustainable Future" within the Open University's undergraduate programme. Click here if you'd like to see a 'taster' of this course.
